What exactly is a “movement” session?

A movement session at the Shala feels more like play than a traditional workout. We often stay close to the ground, engaging in activities like crawling, creeping, balancing, and spinning.

These sessions focus on experimenting with unique transitions and fascinating locomotion techniques that challenge strength, coordination, mobility, agility, and endurance.

A key component is learning to access multiplanar motion—movement across multiple planes, including sagittal (forward and backward), frontal (side to side), and transverse (rotational).

The practices are easily adaptable for all abilities by adjusting factors like load, speed, acceleration, and the capacity to change direction on cue. This approach leads to holistic training for the entire body.

What you'll experience at the Shala is unlike anything found in sports, traditional yoga studios, or gyms. The movement patterns draw inspiration from martial arts, modern dance, gymnastics, Yoga asana, and functional (often called "natural") movement, offering a unique and enriching experience.
